Family-Friendly Fun at The Hundred: Welsh Fire at Sophia Gardens | PR Visit & Review
An unforgettable family day out at The Hundred in Sophia Gardens, where exciting cricket, fun activities, and delicious food made for a perfect summer experience.
Last weekend, we were lucky enough to be invited to Sophia Gardens in Cardiff to catch a match in The Hundred, and it turned out to be one of the best family days out we’ve had in a long time.
If you haven’t heard of The Hundred, it’s a new cricket tournament that started back in 2021, designed to make cricket even more exciting and accessible, especially for younger fans. The format is fast-paced, with each side getting just 100 balls, and it’s been a huge hit since it launched. With my children being huge cricket fans and both playing for the local county team, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to watch this event and experience the thrill of The Hundred first-hand.
The atmosphere at Sophia Gardens was absolutely buzzing when we arrived. We were there on a record-breaking day for the women’s game, with over 7,000 fans filling the stands to watch Welsh Fire take on the Oval Invincibles. The energy was contagious - fans were cheering, waving their foam paws, and even doing a Mexican wave around the stadium. It’s hard not to get swept up in the excitement when the crowd is that lively.
What really impressed us was how much thought had been put into making the event fun for everyone, especially families. There were so many activities set up around the ground to keep the kids entertained. My children spent ages in the big green area practicing their batting and bowling, and they had an absolute blast. There were also lawn games for everyone to enjoy, which made for a great break between the action on the pitch.

The food options were fantastic too, with a wide variety of choices from different vendors, and almost every stall had a vegan option. We decided to try a few different things, and the Rasta Bowl with fried plantain was a definite winner from The Real Ting. The kids loved their vegan burger from Crave Burgers, and we all shared a delicious pizza from Little Dragon Pizza Van. With so much choice, everyone left happy and full.
One of the best parts of the day, especially with the heat, was the Robinsons machine that was giving out cold soft drinks for free. It was such a thoughtful touch and definitely helped keep us cool throughout the day. Robinsons is the official Soft Drinks Partner of The Hundred, and they really delivered with this one.
Even though Welsh Fire didn’t come out on top, the experience was more than enough to make up for it. We all left with huge smiles on our faces, and the kids are already asking when we can go back. If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly day out, I can’t recommend this enough. Thanks to our invite to The Hundred, we had an unforgettable day, and I’m sure you will too. So, grab your tickets, pack up the family, and head to The Hundred event for a fantastic experience. You won’t regret it!
